OPERATION OF COMPOUND WORDS IN YURI ANDRUKHOVYCH’S NOVEL «TWELVE RINGS»

Abstract
Word formation is one of the richest sources of language vocabulary replenishment. It is organically connected with the living processes of language. The formation of compound words in Ukrainian language by adding bases and coherent words proved especially productive in the last decade. This is because in many communication situations there is really a need to express two ideas with one token, in short. Compound words are divided into composites jucstaposition and abbreviations. Analysis of composite jucstaposition and abbreviation functinino make need of fundamentally new units redistribution between different types of compound words. Value of words in dictionaries and texts was proved established: the largest group among these words is composite words, second place for the quantitative expression belongs to jucstaposition after them are abbreviations. In Yuri Andrukhovych’s novel «Twelve Rings» 80 compound nouns, were analyzed which were formed by base assembling, compounding and abbreviations. Among the composites allocated seven types were. Nouns that are created by compounding (jucstaposition) differ from composites that their word-formation base are phrases serial type. Creation of compound words is accompanied by a close encounter on the semantics of two components and development into a single word. Abbreviations are created mainly based on combinations of adjectives with nouns or, less frequently, by combinations of noun + noun or noun+ participle combination. Compound adjectives are created by clear base and word assembling and complicated by suffixes. Various bases may be used, but the most productive are noun phrases. Two ways of word assembling is inherent for compound adverbs in the novel – jucstaposition and compound-suffixal. Base composition in adverbs has irregular nature, is indicated by features of peripheralism among other ways of adverbial word formation. Thus, compound words in the Yuri Andrukhovych’s novel reveal the possibilities of artistic language and, in particular, individual style in creation of new verbal images.
