THE LINGUISTIC STRUCTURE OF «CITY» LANDSCAPE IMAGE

Abstract
The article studies the linguistic structure of the landscape image of «city» in postmodern Ukrainian fiction. Landscape is a description of nature as a part of environs. A cityscape is the urban equivalent of a landscape. Townscape is roughly synonymous with cityscape, though it implies the same difference in urban size and density (and even modernity) implicit in the difference between the words city and town. The cityscape allows us to recreate the face of a city. We focus on the features of the urban landscape, which plays a symbolic role in terms of lexical-semantic field «city» in postmodern Ukrainian fiction. Language structure of landscape image «city» in prose of postmodern writers has not been the subject of special study. Landscape description is a picture, the view of areas, that are fixed in the imagination of the observer at some point. Language structure of cityscape closely associated with tokens from the city and semantics of context (description of streets, squares, areas, buildings, recreation facilities, etc.). Language structure of urban landscape units ‘street’, ‘square’, ‘area’ are varied. In postmodern prose there are numerous descriptions of leisure and entertainment. The iconic in a postmodern prose are the descriptions of buildings. Cities are portrayed in varied sensory images. Landscape images allow authors to convey the psychological basis of the plot and the emotional state of the character. The qualitative features characteristic of the urban landscape is not only a description of the realities on the designation of the city, but also the functioning of copyright unusual designs. The artistic means (epithets, metaphors, irony, different personality) play an important role in a city description. The cityscape in a postmodern prose serves different functions as the local identity, as the psychological description and as an identification of author’s attitude.
