Patients' dignity in the face of death

Abstract
Theory gives us numerous definitions of death but none of them is adequate in 100%. Death is a not entirely comprehensible phenomenon because it is so individual that everyone need to experience it themselves to understand it. Despite of the great progress in medicine, death is still an integral part of our lives and it is impossible to avoid it ultimately. This gives rise to many ethical questions about persistent therapy and wise limits of resuscitation. Making de-cision about ceasing the persistent therapy is aimed at giving up some medicai treatments which ceased to be adequate to the situation of a patient. The decision is madę when the tre-atment becomes not commensurate with expected results or the treatment becomes too oppressive for the patient orthe family. We should rememberthat patient is resignation from special treatment does not mean his agreement to euthanasia.
