PHYSICALACTIVITYAND OCCURRENCE OF OBESITYAMONG PRIMARY ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION OUTPATIENTS

Abstract

[b]Background.[/b] Primary arterial hypertension and obesity are considered major health pro-blems In deyeloped countries. Non-pharmacological methods such as change of lifestyle inclu-ding diet modifications and increasing physical actiyity play a significant role In preyention and tberapy of primary hypertension. The aim ofthe study was to assess the relationship between nutritional status and physical actiyity among people with primary arterial hypertension.[b]Materiał and methods.[/b] 33 outpatients with primary arterial hypertension and without coexi-stent diseases (17K/16M, aged 47.8±1226) and 29 healthy yolunteers (12K/17M, aged 30±11) were recruited to the study assessing the relationships between nutritional status and physical actiyity. Anthropometric data (BMI, waistline, hips girth) and blood pressure were measured, and a sun/ey In a form of a lifestyle ąuestionnaire was performed In both groups.[b]Results.[/b] It was found that oyerweight and obesity was morę freąuent among primary arterial hypertension outpatients then In the healthy group (67% vs 4%). The level of physical actiyity was similar In both groups, and declared by 60% of subjects In each group.[b]Conclusions.[/b] The occurrence of oyerweight and obesity correlate with Iow physical actiyity In primary arterial hypertension outpatients. The obtained results indicate that pro- health education related to lifestyle modification, especially increased physical actiyity is very impor-tant In preyention and treatment of ciyilization-related diseases.
