Polish public-political movement in the dnieper-region in per-spective of historical regional studies

Abstract

Polish public-political movement was the determining factor in the socio-political and spiritual-cultural life over the Dnieper-region during XIX – early XX century. The absence of legal channels of national communications and national po-litical life had turned social and political activity into one of the fundamental princi-ples of Polish patriotism in terms of statelessness. Learning Polish socio-political practices will contribute to clarifying the factors of formation and implementation of government policies in solving of "the Polish question" in the region, will define the peculiarities of Polish life in the Dnieper-region’s public space. The aim of the article is a studying of the Polish political movement in the Ukrainian territory in the context of modern Historical Regional Studies. The author analysed and summarized the main theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of social problems of Poles. The factors that have shaped the evolution of the Polish movement were identified, its impact on regional policy of tsarist was also determined. Application methodological apparatus of social and regional history, of culturology, gender's and feminist studies, imperial and ethnic studies allows to ex-plore the evolution of social and political activity of Poles, identify its main direc-tions and forms, social composition, regional specifics and more. The author concluded that a wide range of research on the problems of the gene-sis of Polish socio-political movements of the modern era shows the relevance of approaches in the context of the historical development of Eastern Europe. Social and political history of the Poles in the Russian Empire is the focus of both foreign and domestic scientists, because it was the part of modern imperial political-legal, socio-cultural and socio-economic transformations. The development of the Polish movement was a response to a threat for the preservation of national identity in terms of implementation nationalist imperial project, based on the perception of the Dnieper-region like a historic area of the state.
