Abstract
The primary objective of this article is to answer the question of a methodological nature: to what extent position in the social structure of individuals determine by using the so-called objective criteria (income, occupational position, education) is consistent with the subjective assessment of their social position, and what factors contribute to the existing discrepancies. General question concerns the explanatory possibility of models constructed with the criteria of objective and models based on subjective criteria. The article is located in the mainstream of broadly understood issues concerning the transformation of the social structure. Theoretical basis for the empirical analysis are the sociological theories of structure and social mobility. Empirical illustrations based are on data from a longitudinal sociological studies: Lubuskie Social Survey (2005 and 2009) and the Polish General Social Survey (2005, 2008). The results of empirical studies clearly indicate that changes occur in conditions of perception of self social position in such direction, that the role of profession is reduced and the growing importance of non-work factors , among which important function fully subjective assessment of their own situation, comparative contexts, and categories (groups) references. The article summarized the measure of the position in the social structure, estimates of the divergence and indicated possible areas allowing these divergence to explain.
