PROSPECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROMOTIONAL FOREST COMPLEXES

Abstract
Promotional forest complexes (PFC) occupy an area representing approximately 17% of the total area of the State Forests (SF). The creation of further PFC confirms the feasibility of the adopted concept of pilot areas for national eco-forestry policy. However, it appears that the 25 currently operating PFC in the area of 1,268 million hectares of forests represent the variability of forest management in the SF. Currently, preference should be placed on improving the effectiveness of implementation of the tasks set for the PFC. They should initiate interdisciplinary research and innovation, later used in the SF. Their leading role in the long-term public education is not to be underestimated. They fulfill the task of integrating the objectives of sustainable forests management and active conservation of nature. To achieve these objectives there is a need of cooperation among SF directors, the PFC scientific and social councils and deans of Forest Faculties, as well as directors of research institutes and institutions related to nature conservation.
