Protective effect of Aloe vera in injuries gastric

Abstract
[b]Objective:[/b] To determine the cytoprotective effect of [i]Aloe vera [/i](Sabila) on gastric mucosa and compare them with those produced by sucralfate in the experimentation animals. [b]Design: [/b]Experimental study. [b]Setting: [/b]San Marcos University Institute of Pathology. Lima, Perú. [b]Materials: [/b]thirty six albino female rats were evaluated, of the specie [i]Rattus norvegicus [/i]strain Holtzman of Instituto Nacional de Salud, Lima-Perú [b]Interventions: [/b]Following 24 hours solid food fasting The rats received by orogastric cannulation for seven days dialy with one of this treatements: control group with saline solution, [i]Aloe vera [/i]gel group with 10ml/kg and , Sucralfate group (500mg/kg). One hour later they were supplied with 1,5ml of ethanol 100% via intragastrical on days 1, 4 and 7. [b]Main Outcome Measures:[/b] the gastric lesions produced were quantitatively and qualitatively, macroscopically and microscopically evaluated. [b]Results:[/b] Aloe vera treatments (1,01%) resulted in a significant reduction of ethanol- induced gastric lesion in compare of control group (3,66%). As regards lesion depths, no significant differences were shown amongst the Sucralfate group and Aloe vera Gel Group. [b]Conclusions:[/b] in the present study, [i]Aloe vera [/i]showed an important protective and therapeutic effect quite similar to that of Sucralfat.
