Psychological understandings of freedom. A review of conceptualization attempts

Abstract
Academic thoughts on the phenomenon of freedom have a complicated history in psychology. Freedom is a difficult concept to define in psychology and the process of the operationalization of the concept encounters many problems. The current state of knowledge of freedom in psychology indicates that successive psychological schools either definitely oversimplify the issue of human freedom, rejecting freedom and attributing it to behavior or the external environment, or they make freedom too homogeneous a phenomenon. Psychological theories on personal freedom are not monolithic. The article is entirely devoted to theoretical concepts concerning freedom. The Author presents the most important psychological theories and describes approaches to the issues of freedom within these theories.
