Abstract
Modern studies of the social security theory are more focused on the study of the concept legal nature. Therefore, a major issue is the social security study as a component of state social policy. Given this, the article examines the essence of social security and gives a description of its components during the transformational period in economy. Revealed the transformation period peculiarities and the social policy problems in the field of public assistance. Defined the public assistance principles in the transformational economy in terms of its main components.
