Research progress on plant cadmium toxicity and the alleviation effect of selenium on cadmium stress

Journal Title: Journal of Henan Agricultural University - Year 2023, Vol 57, Issue 3

Abstract

The inhibitory effects of cadmium on the growth of different plants were reviewed from three aspects, including photosynthesis of aboveground leaves, nutrient absorption of underground roots and overall oxidative stress. In recent years, more and more researchers have found that selenium has a mitigating effect on cadmium toxicity. Therefore, this paper then summarizes how selenium in different plants regulates and improves photosynthesis, nutrient absorption and antioxidant capacity of plants under cadmium stress in response to the above three aspects of cadmium toxicity. At the same time, how to reduce the cadmium content in plants by selenium was analyzed, and the future research was prospected, in order to provide a theoretical reference for seeking the production technology of effective alleviation cadmium toxicity.
