Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 43
Abstract
In conformance with article 25 of the Berlin Treaty, Bosnia-Herzegovina was handed over to the Austro-Hungarian Empire and hence forward the occupation of Austria-Hungary commenced. However this occupation was not be an easy task as the Muslims were living under traumatic conditions due to the circumstances and the Serbs having other intentions for Bosnia-Herzegovina were to unite their forces and fight against this occupation. The Muslims of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Serbs carried forward their collaboration following the occupation as well; they acted in unison during the 1882 Revolt. Although at the start the pro-Croation policies adopted by Austria had motivated this collaboration, due to the fact that in 1882 Benjamin Von Kallay became Joint Minister of Finance the concept of “Bosnianship” was to be created against Serbian and Croatian nationalism in Bosnia-Herzegovina and endeavors were to be made to push the Muslims to the Austrian side. During the reign of King Milan Obrenoviç who was an advocator of Austria-Hungary, Serbia’s Bosnia-Herzegovina policy and the policy adopted by his son Aleksandar Obrenoviç from 1889 onwards after he became King following the abdication of King Milan Obrenoviç in his favor, the aforementioned Serbian policies shall be discussed in this article. When in 1903 an advocator of Russia, King Petar Karadjordjeviç came to the throne the policy adopted by Serbia from then onwards up until 1908 when Bosnia-Herzegovina was annexed to Austro-Hungarian Empire shall also be referred to in this article.
