Abstract
The article presents the general characteristics of the genre of sermon in church and religious discourse (based on closely- and far-related languagesSermon is analized as a speech genre; its composition, the content as well as the strategies of the sermon have been considered; the classifications and the specifics of the Orthodox sermon of the twentieth century in the English, modern Greek, Ukrainian and Russian languages are analyzed.
