Single-pixel terahertz imagiang: a review
Journal Title: Opto-Electronic Advances - Year 2020, Vol 3, Issue 9
Abstract
This paper is devoted to reviewing the results achieved so far in the application of the single-pixel imaging technique to terahertz (THz) systems. The use of THz radiation for imaging purposes has been largely explored in the last twenty years, due to the unique capabilities of this kind of radiation in interrogating material properties. However, THz imaging systems are still limited by the long acquisition time required to reconstruct the object image and significant efforts have been recently directed to overcome this drawback. One of the most promising approaches in this sense is the so-called “single-pixel” imaging, which in general enables image reconstruction by patterning the beam probing the object and measuring the total transmission (or reflection) with a single-pixel detector (i.e., with no spatial resolution). The main advantages of such technique are that i) no bulky moving parts are required to raster-scan the object and ii) compressed sensing (CS) algorithms, which allow an appropriate reconstruction of the image with an incomplete set of measurements, can be successfully implemented. Overall, this can result in a reduction of the acquisition time. In this review, we cover the experimental solutions proposed to implement such imaging technique at THz frequencies, as well as some practical uses for typical THz applications.

Enhanced organic solar cell performance: Multiple surface plasmon resonance and incorporation of silver nanodisks into a grating-structure electrode
In this study, plasmonic nanostructures were examined to enhance the light harvesting of organic thin-film solar cells (OSCs) by multiple surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomena originating from the grating-coupled con...
Underwater image enhancement based on red channel weighted compensation and gamma correction model
Due to the special characteristics of light in water, the information of the red channel is seriously attenuated in collected image. This causes other colors to dominate the image. This paper proposes an underwater image...
Fabrication of three-dimensional proteinaceous micro- and nano-structures by femtosecond laser cross-linking
Proteins are a class of biomaterials having a vast array of functions, including the catalysis of metabolic reactions, DNA replication, stimuli response and transportation of molecules. Recent progress in laser-based fab...
Multifunctional inverse sensing by spatial distribution characterization of scattering photons
Inverse sensing is an important research direction to provide new perspectives for optical sensing. For inverse sensing, the primary challenge is that scattered photon has a complicated profile, which is hard to derive a...
Iterative freeform lens design for prescribed irradiance on curved target
Current freeform illumination optical designs are mostly focused on producing prescribed irradiance distributions on planar targets. Here, we aim to design freeform optics that could generate a desired illumination on a...
