Abstract
The article considers the competence approach as an educational response to the development of society and as an incentive for self-development in the system of continuous education; The essence of the interpretation of the concept of "competence" in domestic and foreign sources is elucidated; the content of the State standard of basic and complete general secondary education in the context of the competent approach is analyzed; essence of key competency of the ability to learn is revealed; programs of the senior and basic school for the subject of formation of the components of the ability to study; The arguments of senior pupils and physics teachers regarding the competences they are seeking are analyzed.
