Journal Title: Eminak - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
The paper studies the Soviet historiography of the second half of 1950s – the first half of 1960s on the problem of socialist competition among the Ukrainian postwar working class (1946-1965). The author concludes that during the second half of 1950s – the first half of 1960s Soviet researchers paid much attention to such sub-theme of working class issue as the socialist competition and its highest form, i.e. the communist labor movement. However, despite the presence of a great number of works, most of them have a weak source base, which is limited to a few companies, or even a plant or factory, and has a very narrow chronological framework and makes it impossible to trace the development of the movement. In addition, the vast majority of the works is of a popular science or even journalistic character. They don’t include summarizing research on oblasts and regions of the Ukrainian SSR, their comparative analysis. Assessing the objectivity of the Soviet works it is necessary to clearly specify their biased character, doubtful digital content associated with the use of statistical sources formed on the basis of false claims and formalism. The coverage of shortcomings and deficiencies in the movement development by Soviet researchers is not associated with a centrally-controlled economy and its planned nature, which in itself was contrary to the policy of above-plan production manufacturing.
