Сontrast in modern English fictional text

Abstract
The article deals with the problem of contrast and its role in modern English fictional text as a way of perception of the world through the text. The close relationship between the principle of contrast and vividness is traced. The concept of contrast on the semantic, structural, stylistic and pragmatic levels is considered on the works of domestic and foreign linguists. Contradiction component is proved to be implemented as a compositional device of contrast.
