Spectroscopic analysis of intraocular fluid in patients with cataract and pseudoexfoliation syndrome-associated glaucoma
Journal Title: Офтальмологический журнал - Year 2019, Vol 0, Issue 2
Abstract
Background: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PES) is a risk factor for the development of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). Impaired intraocular fluid (as reflected by the chemical composition and physical properties, velocity and viscosity, of this fluid) is a major factor for elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Purpose: To assess anterior eye characteristics and intraocular fluid protein levels in patients with PES and to compare them with those in patients with glaucoma and patients with cataract only. Materials and Methods: We assessed anterior eye characteristics (anterior chamber depth and crystalline lens size) and protein levels in the intraocular fluid obtained intraoperatively during lens exchange in patients with PES. These data were compared with those of patients with glaucoma and patients with cataract only. Results: The changes in anterior eye characteristics and intraocular fluid protein levels in patients with cataract plus PES were similar to those in patients with glaucoma, but not to those in patients with cataract without PES. Conclusion: Study findings advocate for early surgical cataract extraction to avoid the development of glaucoma in patients with PES.

School-day biorhythms of threshold exposure duration for recognition of test objects in schoolchildren of grades 7 to 11
Background: To the best of our knowledge, no study has yet reported on biorhythms of Threshold Exposure Duration for Recognition of Test Objects (TEDRTO). Purpose: To investigate biorhythms of TEDRTO over a school day in...
Predicting the development and progression of primary open-angle glaucoma based on the determination of GST gene polymorphisms
Background: Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a complex multifactorial disease resulting from interaction of risk factors and gene polymorphisms. Previously, we have dem...
Relationship between diabetic retinopathy and cerebral perfusion in type 2 diabetes mellitus
Background: Compared to patients without diabetic retinopathy (DR), those with DR demonstrate better cognitive performance. It is therefore reasonable to hypothesize that retinal microcirculatory changes might be a marke...
Neuroophthalmological symptoms of pituitary adenomas with supraparasellar extension
Background: Pituitary adenomas (PA) are benign neoplasms that arise from adenohypophysis; they are most common skull base tumors, and account for 12% to15% of all intracranial tumors. In PA with supraparasellar extension...
