“STAND ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS,” OR A GIFTED STUDENT AS AN EDUCATIONAL PROBLEM

Abstract
Abstract: The article describes the problems of developmental risks for gifted students. In the introductory part, the notion and concepts of giftedness provided by selected authors are discussed. It also describes gifted people with special attention given to the problems of their social and emotional development. The author points to developmental disorders that occur in highly gifted people, such as dyssynchrony and asynchrony. The article also describes a syndrome of inadequate achievements and the reasons for its occurrence brought about by - among other things - the cultural and economic context, school, family, and the factors connected with the student’s personality. In addition, the article discusses research on teachers of gifted students, and reviews the concepts of psychological and educational care, and career counseling for gifted students.
