Supervision — systemic perspective
Journal Title: Psychoterapia - Year 2010, Vol 154, Issue 3
Abstract
Summary The paper presents the main issues connected with theory and practice of systemic supervision working with families. The process of isomorphism and resonance in the context of supervision is described and their potentially protective function in relation to dysfunctional patterns within the family and therapeutic system. Different forms of supervision are presented: the way of their application, advantages and limitations of every form. The author indicates that the form and style of supervision depends on supervisor’ and supervisee theoretical background, supervisee professional experience, referring problem, the legal aspect along with the institutional context and technical possibilities (the sort of equipment). The main point is how to choose the adequate option of supervision and how to use it flexibly in relation to the need of the supervisee, the context of training, the refereeing problem and supervisor responsibility. Relationship between the supervisor and supervisee, the base of the supervision process, may extend from strict control to a partner relation in which both sides mutually learn each other. The last option is particularly connected with social constructionist background. It is worth to mention how the social constructionizm modified the way we see the relationship in the supervision process and supervisor position by analysing issues connected with power, gender, race, ethnicity, age.
