The Impact of employee engagement on organisational performance – a case of an Insurance Brokerage company in Gauteng

Abstract

The impact of employee engagement on organisational performance has attracted much debate over the past two decades. This study examines the impact of employee engagement on organisational performance in an insurance brokerage as well as the factors that influence and shape employee engagement in the context of the organisation. To achieve this objective, aqualitative research approach was adopted for this study. Using an inductive approach, interviews were conducted to gain insights into the factors that affect employee engagementand the data was gathered and analysed using thematic analysis. The key finding of this study was that there is an understanding of the concept of employee engagement and its impact on organisational performance. The study revealed that low engagement affected commitment and motivation levelsof staff. The low employee engagement levels were produced by job design, ineffective communication, managementapproach, participation andincentives in the form of recognition.
