The Mediating Role of Home Environment on the Relationship Between Language Learning Motivation and Communication Skills among College Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the mediating role of the home environment on the relationship between language learning motivation and communication skills among college students. Quantitative non-experimental research utilizing descriptive correlational technique and mediation analysis were employed in this study. The data were gathered from 258 non-board program first-year to third-year students through stratified random sampling utilizing proportional allocation. Data gathering was done through survey questionnaires. The statistical tools used in the computation of data and testing the hypotheses at alpha 0.05 level of significance are mean, Pearson r, and structural equation modelling (SEM) using mediation analysis. Findings revealed that the level of language learning motivation, communication skills, and home environment were high. There was a significant relationship between language learning motivation and communication skills, home environment and communication skills, home environment and language learning motivation. Results also revealed that the home environment has full mediated the relationship between language learning motivation and communication skills.
