THE PECULARITIES OF TRANSLATION OF NON-EQUIVALENT WORDS INTO THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE

Abstract

Метою дослідження є визначення принципів перекладу безеквівалентної лексики українською мовою. Результати роботи, що дозволяють зрозуміти культурні особливості лексичного матеріалу конкретної мови, обумовили декілька способів перекладу зазначеного матеріалу, а саме: перекладацька транслітерація та транскрипція засобами мови-реципієнта; калькування; описовий переклад або розкриття змісту запозиченого слова за допомогою розгорнутих словосполучень; наближений переклад, пошук найближчого значенню відповідника; трансформаційний переклад, перебудова синтаксичної будови речення з урахуванням лексико-граматичних перекладацьких трансформацій. Було виявлено відмінності перекладу загальних та власних назв. Не дивлячись на те. що мови відмінні за своєю граматичною, лексичною та лексичною будовою через те, що їх носії мають у свідомості різні картини світу, у процесі перекладу можливо передати культурно обумовлені явища, що характерні для конкретної мови. The objectives of the present research have been to elaborate the principles of the translation of non-equivalent words in the Ukrainian language. The results we have obtained allow us to put the project, helping to understand some cultural peculiarities that are present in the language, into practice. According to the view expressed in the article, non-equivalent words have cultural specifics. There are some ways of transferring of the non-equivalent vocabulary: transliteration or transliteration and transcription; calquing or transferring of the equivalent vocabulary of the original language by replacing its constituent parts ‒ morphemes or words (in the case of stable word combinations) by their direct lexical correspondences in the target language; descriptive (explanatory) translation or transferring the equivalent vocabulary or revealing the meaning of the lexical unit of the source language with the help of unfolded word combinations that reveal the essential features of the phenomenon indicated by a given lexical unit; an approximate translation (translation using the analogue), finding the closest match in the target language for the lexical unit of the source language that does not have exact correspondences; transformational translation, transferring the equivalent vocabulary, the restructuring of the syntactic structure of the sentence, lexical substitutions with a complete change in the meaning of the original word, or to both simultaneously, called lexical and grammatical translation transformations; so in this case, we can talk about a transformational transfer. Different types of words used in various areas of communication are adopted differently in Ukrainian. In some cases, they are transmitted by practical transcription, by replacing the English sound and writing similar Ukrainian without any special attention to the meaning of the transmitted words. The main means of transferring borrowed words is practical transcription. In spite of the fact that in the process of research we have seen that languages differ in their grammatical, lexical and syntactic structure because their speakers have different world pictures formed by through the prism of the native language, in the process of translation from the source language into the target language, it is possible to transfer culturally conditioned phenomena, characteristic only for one language.
