Journal Title: Записки з ономастики - Year 2018, Vol 0, Issue 21
Abstract
Being based on the Ya. M. Shebeshtyan’s classification, we categorize the bulk of described zoopoetonyms as motivated by apellatives (namely, by the attributes marked by these apellatives), the rest — as grounded on antropoetonyms. In a certain way, the motivational incentive for naming an animal may be defined by the extent of the scheduled by the author participation of the zoocharacter’s name in creating its image and in general in the implementation of the author’s idea. This formula works successfully in the investigated novels: so, a personified, respected pet is deceived by zoopoetonym, based on a real personal name, and an animal friend, a faithful assistant, with which the owner feels «on an equal footing», «will not offend » on the simpler nickname, caused by external characteristics. The purpose of the study is an analysis of the zoopoetonyms’ role in Lyuko Dashvar’s and Larisa Denisenko’s novels, that involves solving the following scientific tasks: to distinguish zoopoetonyms from the texts; to classify them according to the motivational incentive for naming; to reveal their semantic loading. The object is zoopoetonymy of Lyuko Dashvar’s novels «Village Isn’t People», «Milk with Blood», «To Have Everything» and Larisa Denisenko’s novels «Coffee Flavor of Cinnamon», «Saraband of Sarah’s Gang» and the subject — the role of zoopoetonymic units in plot of the work. In the investigation the method of analysis, descriptive and contextual-interpretation methods are used. Among the zoopoetonyms of studied novels the 50 units of the 5 groups have been fixed by us, their structural, semantic and stylistic features have been described. As a result of the study, it has been found that in the work the animal’s name, in addition to fulfilling functions of getting acquainted with it by the reader, outline of the zoocharacter and participation in the creation of the image, acts as a means of art embodiment of the author’s worldview and the realization of the creative potential of the writers. It is concluded that the choice of a name for a zoocharacter is mainly determined by the elements of the subjects of the novel and by the specifics of the plot. The practical value of the investigation lies in the fact that its results can be used in special courses from poetonimology or from studying the creativity of selected authors. As a perspective direction of work, we determine the further analysis of features of zoopoetonymy of modern Ukrainian prose.
