The unionization of female domestic workers in frst peronism

Abstract

This article reconstructs the unionization of domestic workers during the frst Peronism. Firstly, the quantitative participation in the urban workforce and the labor conditions in the middle run are studied focusing on the prevailing conditions in the middle of 20th century. Secondly, the building of the sector’s union is analyzed in the context of the confguration of Peronist workers movement. The heterogeneous labor conditions, the fragmentation of workplaces, the multiple forms of exploitation and the cultural backgrounds of the sector ruled the union organization.
