VERBALIZATION OF THE CONCEPT HOUSE / HOME IN THE PAROEMIA LANGUAGE CORPUS (BASED ON UKRAINIAN AND ENGLISH)

Abstract
The article in question deals with the linguistic contrastive analysis of the concept HOUSE HOME in Ukrainian and English from the point of view of proverbs functioning. Attention is focused on the paroemias which are considered as a complicated semantic category and may reflect the specicity of perception of the objective reality by the representatives of different ethnos in general and each fragment in particular. In a wide sense paroemia is an archetype unit that represents an ancient culture, traditions and mentality of each nation. Meantime the concept HOUSE / HOME is regarded as a reduced model of the universe which explains connections between generations, saves family customs and secrets, stores information about historical life, exterior and internal features, etc. The frequency characteristics of the constructions under discussion have been identied with the help of the quantitative analysis. The material includes 76 proverbs in Ukrainian and 52 ones in English. The research results have also shown that the productivity in two investigated languages is different. The objective of the article is to study paroemia features of verbalization of the concept HOUSE HOME in Ukrainian and English language corpora. To achieve the objective a number of problems is solved. They are connected with theoreticalmethodological basis of the study, classication of their content, determination and description of peculiarities of verbalization of the concept HOUSE / HOME. The common and different features have been identied. The most widespread conceptual similarities and differences have been determined in both languages with the help of nine forms and with an ability to be represented by metaphors. The analysis of actual material has conrmed that Ukrainian paroemias of the concept HOUSE / HOME are richer and more extended. Ukrainian paroemias refer also to residence and the geographical location of a man. At the same time it has been examined that Ukrainian and English proverbs may express negative and positive connotations as well as opposition, gradational, semantico-syntactic relations.
