WATER QUALITY OF WHITE CHEREMOSH RIVER AND MINERAL COMPOSITION OF BROWN TROUT MUSCLE AND GILLS
Journal Title: Słupskie Prace Biologiczne - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 14
Abstract
The main parameters of water composition (temperature, рН, dissolved oxygen, BOD5, suspended solids, total ammonium, nitrates, nitrites, total hardness, total mineralization, HCO3-, Ca, Mg, Na, K, chlorides, soleplates) and mineral elements content (Ca, Mg, K, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Co, Cd, Pb, Cr, Ni) in muscle and gills of brown trout in White Cheremosh River on the territory of Verkhovyna district of Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine have been studied. During May-July 2014 the averages water body temperature was 12.7°C (range 10.4-13.2°C). pH 6.5 (5.5-7.4), dissolved oxygen 8.27 mg/L (7.29-9.31), BOD5 2.21 mg/L (1.59-2.95), total ammonia 0.09 mg/L (0.02-0.2), nitrites 0.005 mg/L (0,002-0,008), nitrates 4.91 mg/L (3.0- 6.7), hardness 289 mg CaCO3/L (225-360), mineralization 306 mg/L (263-358), chlorides 2.69 mg/L (2.0-4.0), sulfates 11.92 mg/L (9.0-17.0). So, none of the studied parameters did exceed maximum permissible level what indicating a favorable environment for water biota. The values of most minerals in the trout muscle tissue were within physiologically acceptable limits. However, content of cobalt was slightly elevated, whereas zinc and cooper contents were close to the upper limit of norms. Levels of cadmium and lead in the trout muscle does not exceed the maximum allowable concentration, but were rather high. The levels of all investigated minerals in the gills significantly exceeded the corresponding indices in the muscle. Therefore, mineral providing of trout in White Cheremosh River is satisfactory, but levels of some elements need more careful monitoring.
