A TRADUÇÃO DE O FILHO ETERNO DE CRISTOVÃO TEZZA PARA LÍNGUA INGLESA SOB AS LENTES DOS ESTUDOS DE TRADUÇÃO BASEADOS EM CORPUS

Abstract
The following paper aims at analyzing the book by the Brazilian author Cristovão Tezza, O Filho Eterno, 2007, and the translation for the English language The Eternal Son, 2013, by Alison Entrekin under the perspective of Translation Studies based on Corpus (BAKER, 1993, 1996) and the Corpus Linguistics (BERBER SARDINHA, 2004). In accordance with theories that guide the field of Comparative Literature, the Translation Studies overcome the perspectives of equivalence and fidelity to come down to the comprehension of the translation as a per se object (BAKER, 1996). Nevertheless, we aimed at identifying behaviors intrinsically related with the translated text in a way that we could contribute withe the comprehension of the processes, characteristics and ultimately with the translation phenomena. This work pinpoints at the tendency of simplification – omission and consequently reduction on the translated text when compared with the original – and explicitation – explanatory insertions and consequently increase in the translation. Identifying and analyzing such characteristics showed that there is a tendency to bring the translation closer to the target culture and language, making the reading easier and more fluent by the use of insertions or omissions for the target public. The analysis of the whole subcorpora extension was only possible by the use of a digital tool, WordSmith Tools 6.0.
