ACADEMIC POTENTIAL AS AN ELEMENT OF KATOWICE IMAGE COMPARED TO OTHER VOIVODESHIP CAPITALS

Abstract
The objective of the paper is to determine academic potential of Katowice compared to the selected reference voivodeship capitals. The authors review academic offers and career opportunities for graduates. The main factor of writing the article was verification the hypothesis that Silesia offers students educational and career opportunities equally attractive as currently the most popular Polish cities among the students. The authors think that the analysis of the academic potential of city is important because the structural changes in the Katowice’s economy for several years associated with the resignation from the heavy industry to the broader services sector, including modern services. The presence of highly qualified graduates is therefore an essential element in the further development of the city.<br/><br/>
