COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES OF PRESIDENTS VACLAV HAVEL AND VACLAV KLAUS IN THE MASS MEDIA

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to show the problem of strategies in the political discourse of Presidents of the Czech Republic – Vaclav Havel and Vaclav Klaus and justify their use. This article is devoted to the study of means of manipulative influence in political discourse. The material of the study are articles by V. Havel and V. Klaus and Korpus DIALOG (National academy of sciences of the Czech Republic), published at different times (from 1990 to 2013). Methodology: the descriptive method. Finding. Linguistic manipulation in Czech political discourse is revealed through the study of strategies of linguistic manipulation (strategy of “avoiding” the author of the answer by using a strong indicator of uncertainty, general use of meaningless phrases; strategy of interrupting the guest and delaying the dialogue). The defined terms are used to describe the manipulative process and examples of strategies by Vaclav Havel and Vaclav Klaus. Practical value. I think the article may be recommended to researchers, postgraduates and students in the field of linguistics. Results. The Czech presidents V. Havel and V. Klaus repeatedly used manipulative strategies to achieve their political goals.
