COMPARISON OF CRYOTHERAPY AND WARMTHERAPY IN KNEE JOINT INJURIES

Abstract

Background. A number of knee joint injuries are growing up every year. The most often a main reason is uncontrolled sport-activity. The aim of the study was to state that early rehabilitation should be a choice treatment modality in cases of knee injuries.Material and methods. We exiled 60 patients with knee injuries. All of them had ordinated passive full range movement exercises and isometric muscle strength improving exercises in assistance of warm or cryotherapy. Beside of this 30 patients with the same kind of dysfunction were treated only by orthoses of knee. A time of observation lasted 20 therapeutic days. Before a treatment the passive and active range of knee movement examination was done. Additionally strength of flexors and extensors of knee was estimated and a profile of pain was done. After 20 days, all examination procedures were repeated and a probe of walking in relation to pain was done.Results. The range of passive and active movement of the knee was fully restored only among patients treated by physiotherapy procedures. No pain problem exists in rest and during walking among them and strength of muscles was not depressed. Conservative treatment by using orthoses did not resolved mobility, strength and pain problems. Conclusions. Early rehabilitation after knee injuries should be a more popular way of treatment because is effective and save method. Always exercises should be connected with physical modalities such as warm or cryotherapy.
