Abstract

Viral respiratory infections in the three first years of life are considered the most important risk factors for developing asthma later in life. Viruses, with predominance of rhinoviruses and RSV, are associated with wheezing phenotype and subsequently with childhood asthma. Genetic predisposition may significantly influence susceptibility to viral infections and also asthma. This work provides a review of the latest studies on respiratory viral infections in regard to genetic susceptibility and the risk of asthma development in children. ............................... Zakażenia wirusowe układu oddechowego w pierwszych 3 latach życia dziecka są najważniejszym czynnikiem ryzyka astmy w późniejszym okresie. Wirusy te, wśród których dominują rynowirusy i wirus RSV, są związane z fenotypem świszczącego oddechu, a w późniejszym okresie z ryzykiem rozwoju astmy dziecięcej. Predyspozycja genetyczna może istotnie modyfikować podatność na infekcje, a co za tym idzie również astmę. Niniejsza praca stanowi przegląd najnowszych badań dotyczących zakażeń wirusami pneumotropowymi a podatnością genetyczną i ryzykiem rozwoju astmy dziecięcej.
