Abstract
The article reviews the works and contribution of M. S. Ordubadi and U. V. Chemenzeminli, the outstanding novelists of 30th years of the XX century into the development of historical novel genre. The review is focused on the process of creation of the best works in historical novel genre and the issue of overcoming difficulties in the creation of realistic works reflecting the complexities of social development. It needs to be emphasized that those were the years of formation of the historical novel genre in Azerbaijani literature. Depiction of many historical events with all realistic details takes essential place in the novels of M. S. Ordubadi and U. V. Chemenzeminli. Each of them reflected current and historical events on the basis of principles of socialistic realism. The authors preferred to depict historical events which played crucial role in the life of Azerbaijani people realistically. Depiction of historical reality is the ultimate goal in historical novels. At times, with usage of the principles of socialistic realism, it was allowed to distort the reality when describing the events. It was impossible to represent everything as it used to be, especially, the ancient times of the nations and its wealth were described with certain amendments. Namely due to this fact the preference was given to the novels and stories with distortion of the past to not to allow the real depiction of the fateful issues. According to the method of socialistic realism the preference was usually given to the depiction of historical events connected with socialistic revolution. Therefore, M. S. Ordubadi and U. V. Chemenzeminli had to leave the frames of the socialistic realism method to be able to describe the real events of distant historical past.
