THE INSTALLATION OF THE GOVERNORATE GENERAL OF BAHIA IN COLONIAL BRAZIL

Abstract
In the article we examined the prerequisites of creation by the Portuguese Crown the consolidated Governorate General of Bahia in colonial Brazil at the time of governor Tome de Sousa (1549-1553). We accented that the Portuguese Crown has made attempt to create the integrated administrative and economic system of the brazilian captaincies. The features of integration of private, hereditary colonial administrations systems with the Governorate General system on the territory of portuguese dominion are discovered. The main function of the governor general of Brazil in the context of his interaction with private colonial administrations is lighted. The powers of provedor-mor, ovidor-general and other officials in the colonial administration of Brazil are defined.
