TiO2 Nanotube Arrays formation in Titanium Dental Implants by Anodization
Journal Title: Journal of Advanced Research in Manufacturing, Material Science & Metallurgical Engineering - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 3
Abstract
Dental problems are increasing day by day. Even today, we don’t have a permanent solution for the replacement of missing tooth. Dentures, bridges and dental implants are being used to solve the above problem. Due to various reasons, implants are a better option than its alternatives which can be manufactured by the process of anodization. For the purpose of proper osseointegration, these implants are made porous by making TiO2nanotube arrays via anodization. Process parameters like time, voltage, distance between electrodes, temperature etc have a prominent effect on the dimensions of these nanotubes. All major parameters are studied one by one. An attempt has been made to find the input parameters or conditions that will lead to the formation of nanotubes in Ti6Al4V. SEM images of anodized samples has been taken and the results are analyzed. A comparison table has been made based on the present and previous studies. No clear nanotube formation is recorded in the present study.
