TO THE QUESTION OF SLANG IN LINGUISTICS (50’S OF THE XIX CENTURY – 40’S OF THE XX CENTURY)

Abstract
In the article the studying of general theoretical problems of slang in studious of linguists of the Europe, UIn the article the analysis of the research of general theoretical problems of slang in studious of linguists of Europe, the USA is done. The introduction provides an overview of the latest major publications on this topic, as well as current problems in the study of slang. The aim of the research is the review of the condition of the general theoretical study of slang in linguistics of 50’s of the XIX century – 40’s of the XX century. In the main part the lingua-historical-graphical review of works is done, where general theoretical problems of study of slang in sociolinguistics are distinguished, scientific achievements of foreign and native scientists are analyzed and systemized, approaches and views of different authors of the problem are compared. The views of the scientists on the evolution, conceptual essence, differentiation, slang division on the general and special are distinguished. Attention is paid on the slang qualities: group membership, both variability and conservatism imagery and richness of expression, etc. The problem of general theoretical study of slang is viewed in lingua-historical-graphical aspect. In the conclusion it is mentioned, that the second part of the XIX century is characterized by the beginning of study of different sides of slang and transition from simple dictionary formation to the scientific investigation. However, the investigators of the mentioned period couldn’t answer a lot of theoretical slang questions, some of them are only mentioned. The beginning – 40’s of the XX century is characterized by the activation of theoretical researches of slang. The scientists underline more specific signs, qualities, properties of slang. The perspectives of further investigations are widen study of some actual questions: widening of number of European languages in slang study of 50’s of the XIX century – 40’s of the XX century; generalization of notion of slang, that takes into account its linguistic, sociolinguistic and communicative aspects. The results of the research can be used in the courses of History of Linguistic Studies, Introduction to Linguistics, Lexicology, Practice of Oral and Written Speech (foreign languages), Comparative Typology of Ukrainian and Foreign Languages at philology departments of institution of higher education as well as in cultural and educational work.
